Australian prosecutors are proposing imprisonment for a Crypto.com user who received an erroneous refund of nearly $7 million. The user had utilized most of the funds before the error was discovered in an internal audit three years prior. The incident occurred in May 2021 when Crypto.com sent a refund of AUD 6.86 million (approximately $4.95 million) to a couple, Manivel and Singh from Australia, instead of the intended AUD 100. Due to an internal error, the wrong operation was made. After discovering that the bank account did not match the exchange account, the platform issued a refund but mistakenly transferred AUD 10.47 million into Manivel's bank account. Seven months later, in December 2021, during an internal audit, the platform discovered the error. By then, Singh had purchased several properties and given away AUD 1 million to friends. He claimed he thought he had won an online lottery.
