Despite recent political turmoil in the US, investors still anticipate significant rate cuts for the US within this year. According to data from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the market expects a high probability of the Federal Reserve maintaining its status quo at the upcoming meeting, with rates being cut by 90% or more, and a similar possibility for a cut on September 18th. Furthermore, there is a statistic that indicates approximately 47% of the chance for the Federal Reserve to cut rates three times this year, which is roughly the same as the market's expectations before former presidential candidate Biden dropped out of the race. Faced with such market conditions, economists at Wells Fargo clearly stated in their report that they expect the Fed not to make any changes during the current month's meeting. However, this decision is essentially paving the way for future rate cuts. They further pointed out that based on the Fed's past decision-making records, it tends to favor a loose monetary policy, i.e., lowering interest rates, in key meetings leading up to an election, to cope with economic uncertainties.
