The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), a provincial regulatory body in Canada, recently unveiled the illegal activities of cryptocurrency trading platform ezBtc. It has been reported that during its operation, ezBtc and its founder, David Smillie, diverted around $9.5 million in user funds to gambling activities. This illegal operation took place after ezBtc's permanent shutdown around September 2019. During ezBtc's operational period from 2016 to 2019, the platform claimed to store all users' crypto investments in cold wallets. However, the BCSC investigation group found that ezBtc had actually used some customer funds for improper purposes, severely violating industry regulations. This incident once again reminds market participants to be vigilant about the risks and compliance issues in cryptocurrency trading.
