Following years of pressure from regulatory bodies like the EU, Apple has announced a major decision to open its iPhone's payment chip to third-party use. This move allows banks and other services the opportunity to directly compete with the Apple Pay platform. Starting from iOS 18.1, developers can utilize the NFC-supported payment chip for transactions, and users can set third-party payment applications as default systems, replacing Apple Pay. However, Apple emphasizes that developers still need to pay for the use of NFC chips under the new payment method and must sign commercial agreements.
