Recently, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) referred to a report indicating that more than 58% of the cryptocurrency advertisements on Facebook pose risks of fraud or violations. This investigation involved 600 ads, with the ACCC focusing particularly on 234 of them. It is anticipated that future investigations may uncover additional cases of celebrity scams. The ACCC highlighted that since January 2018, Meta has been aware of misleading and deceptive behaviors in some of the cryptocurrency advertisements on its platform. It emphasized that advertisers must adhere to Meta's advertising policies and are prohibited from posting such advertisements. Although Meta takes action after receiving complaints by removing individual ads and even banning related accounts, there are still similar ads appearing under the same or similar public figures, thereby generating income.
