The Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate recently held a joint press conference to announce the issuance of the 'Interpretation on Several Issues Concerning the Application of Law in Handling Criminal Cases of Money Laundering.' This judicial interpretation will come into effect on August 20, 2024. The interpretation consists of 13 articles aimed at strengthening efforts to combat money laundering activities. One significant aspect is that it includes virtual asset transactions within the scope of money laundering methods. This means that transferring or converting criminal proceeds and their income through virtual asset transactions, financial asset exchanges, and other methods will be considered as a means to conceal and disguise the source and nature of the proceeds of crime. This regulation strengthens supervision over illegal activities in the virtual asset sector, contributing to the prevention and suppression of money laundering crimes.
