Nigeria's SEC Plans to Issue First Digital Services and Tokenized Assets Licenses This Month

Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), revealed that the regulatory body is preparing to issue the first licenses for digital services and tokenized assets to the market this month. Agama emphasized that this initiative aims to promote the development of the fintech industry and support the younger generation in utilizing emerging technologies to create value. He mentioned, "As a cryptocurrency enthusiast and a passionate advocate of fintech, I firmly believe that this process will be achieved faster than we anticipate. Considering Nigeria's vast market potential and its continuous growth trend, this move undoubtedly holds significant importance." Prior to this, the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission had issued its first provisional operating license to the local crypto exchange Quidax, signaling an important step forward in the country's efforts to advance the development of cryptocurrencies and fintech.
