Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of the instant messaging platform Telegram, was arrested on August 24, 2024, at Le Bourget Airport in the suburbs of Paris. This action came as part of a judicial investigation that began on July 8, 2024, after the cybercrime division of the Paris prosecutor's office initiated a preliminary investigation. Durov faces charges including providing unauthorized cryptographic services and tools, as well as conspiracy to possess child pornography images and laundering money for a criminal organization. As part of the cybercrime investigation, Durov is being interrogated. Previous reports indicate that French authorities have the right to detain Durov until August 28, 2024.
