EigenLayer's data availability solution, EigenDA, recently announced a new feature supporting the restaking of native tokens from Layer2 scaling networks. This update not only allows teams to use their ERC-20 tokens to secure specific rollups with custom quorums, providing stronger security guarantees to rollup users, but also provides additional earning opportunities for token holders. EigenDA is the first and largest 'Active Validator Service' (AVS) by EigenLayer, safeguarded by around 3.6 million restaked ETH and 71.5 million EIGEN tokens contributed by over 128,000 stakers. By restaking native tokens on EigenDA, Layer2 networks can achieve custom consensus mechanisms or quorums, securely store and access data. Additionally, this feature expands the types of tokens that can generate earnings through restaking, allowing participants to stake other custom ERC20 tokens in the same way as they would stake ETH and EIGEN tokens.
