Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase submitted a motion in a court document on Tuesday, requesting that the New York court order the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and its chairman Gary Gensler to provide documents related to the case. Coinbase claims that these documents are directly relevant to the SEC's lawsuit against it. The exchange noted that before the SEC sued Coinbase years ago, SEC commissioners and staff had met with market participants like Coinbase and made public statements and guidelines regarding cryptocurrency regulation. Coinbase has asked the court to compel the SEC to provide specific files related to tokens mentioned in the SEC's complaint, files from the deliberation process of Coinbase's listing in April 2021, and personal and professional statements made by Gensler during his tenure as the SEC chairman.
