The Indonesian government has recently announced that it is considering taking strict measures against two popular social media applications – Telegram and BIGO LIVE. This decision primarily stems from allegations that these platforms are involved in spreading pornographic content and promoting online gambling activities. Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that his department has issued 'strong' warnings to both platforms and demanded more effective responses. However, the responses from Telegram and BIGO LIVE have not met the expectations. Setiadi emphasized that he personally wishes for an immediate ban on these applications, but further research by relevant departments is required to ensure the legality and effectiveness of such actions.
