Recently, security research firm PeckShield issued a report stating that following the attack by the WazirX hacker exploiting the platform's vulnerabilities, not only did they fail to fully conceal their illicit gains, but also carried out a washing operation on 400 Ethereum (ETH) using the anonymity protocol Tornado Cash. This highlights that in cryptocurrency transactions and money laundering activities, anonymity tools are still used by criminals to confuse the origin of funds, evade regulation, and tracking. After this cleaning process, the value of these stolen funds was approximately $937,000, emphasizing the difficulty in tracing and recovering stolen assets when hackers use technical means to protect themselves. This incident once again reminds the cryptocurrency industry and users that security measures and compliance are crucial in mitigating such risks.
