According to Professor Xiaogang of the Policy and Practice Institute at the Shenzhen campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, there are currently over a thousand fintech companies in Hong Kong, each developing in different areas. These companies are involved in a wide range of sectors, from mobile payments and cross-border wealth management to AI financial advisory services, wealth and investment management, as well as regulatory technology. Particularly noteworthy is that there are already eight virtual banks, four virtual insurance companies, and two licensed virtual asset trading platforms in Hong Kong, indicating the rapid development and innovation of fintech in the region. The government has shown high concern and continuous support for this, aiming to enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness in the global fintech sector. Financial Secretary John Tsang has emphasized that Hong Kong's future growth potential in finance largely hinges on the development of fintech.
