Man from Columbia County Sentenced to Prison for Cryptocurrency Mining Computer Fraud

An individual in Columbia County, Drawdy, admitted to carrying out fraud by selling expensive computer equipment, which he claimed were for use in cryptocurrency ‘mining’. This was done through an online forum dedicated to cryptocurrency discussions, targeting at least 42 victims between August 2021 and April 2022. Despite promising delivery, Drawdy kept the over $1.1 million received and stopped communicating with the victims. In some cases, he provided partial refunds but demanded additional “fees”, after which he ceased providing refunds or delivering the equipment, also severing all contact with his clients. As part of the judgment, Drawdy was sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay more than $1.1 million in restitution. Additionally, he will undergo three years of supervised release following his prison term.
