In recent investigations into an occupational embezzlement case, Beijing police discovered that the involved parties had rapidly consolidated substantial embezzled funds into the account of a Chinese national residing overseas within a short period. In response, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau's Economic Crime Investigation Team, along with the Dongcheng District Police Bureau, collaborated closely and mobilized law enforcement resources from multiple provinces and municipalities across the country to swiftly dismantle a clandestine money laundering syndicate utilizing cryptocurrency transactions. The main suspect, Lü, and three other key suspects have since been arrested by prosecutors. It has been confirmed that the syndicate, led by Lü, who capitalized on his overseas living experience to identify a method for transferring renminbi from within China to overseas and converting it into foreign currency through cryptocurrency transactions. Subsequently, Lü worked alongside M Chen and others, using cryptocurrency trading platforms to facilitate the purchase of virtual currencies by individuals within China seeking to transfer funds abroad, thus enabling the transfer of funds overseas. The estimated assets of this syndicate amount to approximately over 800 million yuan. Additionally, the police have also identified that this syndicate provided financial channels for several cases of telecommunication fraud and occupational embezzlement, and transferred significant amounts of涉案 funds. This operation not only dealt a blow to the criminal elements' arrogance, but also made significant contributions to maintaining financial order and social stability.
