Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, shared his strategy change for discussing projects on social media. He stated that starting in 2023, he will only mention Layer 2 (L2) projects that have reached phase 1 or higher in public forums such as blogs and speeches. This decision is aimed at focusing on mature and stable projects. Vitalik pointed out that only projects that meet the phase 1 standard will be considered, regardless of personal investments or relationships with project teams. This demonstrates his emphasis on project quality while giving new innovative projects some time to develop. Vitalik also revealed that several L2 teams focusing on zero-knowledge proof (ZK) technology are expected to reach phase 1 targets by the end of the year, and he expressed great anticipation for this. Despite this, Vitalik emphasized the necessity of ensuring the security of proving systems before removing 'auxiliary wheels,' which is a responsible approach. He believes that phase 1 is an important milestone, where 75% of committee members have the authority to override the proving system, with at least 26% coming from outside the rollup team to ensure system stability and security. Vitalik further explained that throughout his experience with multi-signature (multi-sig) systems, he has never encountered any issues related to liveness or the 26% problem, leading him to believe that trust models based on cryptography will become the mainstream in the L2 era. As ZK-rollup technology matures, the era of L2 as an upgraded version of multi-sigs is coming to an end, and a new era based on cryptographic trust is approaching.
