The Central Bank of Russia has announced its plan to enable the country’s largest banks to support the use of the digital ruble in both retail and commercial sectors by July 2025. This initiative aims to promote the widespread adoption of digital national currency, ensuring its flexibility and convenience as a means of payment, just like cash or non-cash funds. Banks will be required to offer services that allow customers to open and fund their digital ruble accounts, transfer funds, and accept digital rubles within their infrastructure. As this plan progresses, it is expected that the digital ruble will play a significant role in daily transactions for both citizens and businesses.
