The Ethereum development team is currently exploring the possibility of splitting the Pectra upgrade into two phases, with the initial phase aiming to be completed in February of next year. This decision was proposed during the recent 196th Ethereum Core Developer Meeting (ACDE). In the past, the development team had considered similar approaches but postponed them due to concerns about potential delays with the Verkle fork. During the latest discussions, the team focused on integrating more EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) into Pectra and decided that the first phase of the upgrade would cover all relevant EIPs on Devnet3, including EIP-7251, EIP-7702, and EIP-6110. The second phase, which will follow, will involve EOF, PeerDAS, and the addition of more Blob numbers, among other significant updates, and may incorporate other EIPs that the team has long considered, such as SSZ. The specific name for the second phase is yet to be determined, and the developers plan to make the final decision at the upcoming ACD phone meeting.
